01 Overview
Overview
Modernized enterprise workloads onto a serverless operating model with clearer service boundaries, event-driven integration, and production operability.
02 Business / Engineering Context
Business / Engineering Context
Enterprise workloads needed a cloud operating model that could change in slices instead of as a single runtime.
03 Problem
Problem
Monolithic and tightly coupled runtime patterns made change expensive, scaling uneven, and operational ownership unclear.
04 Constraints
Constraints
- Incremental delivery without a single cutover
- Existing integration contracts had to keep working during the move
05 Architecture
Architecture
- Service boundaries around business capabilities rather than technical layers
- Event-driven integration for asynchronous work and reduced coupling
- API contracts for synchronous access paths
- Environment isolation and promotion paths for safer change
Bounded services, event contracts, and APIs replaced a tightly coupled runtime, with operations designed in from the start.

06 Architecture Decisions
Architecture Decisions
- Service boundaries follow business capabilities, not technical layers
- Asynchrony is used to reduce coupling where immediate consistency is not required
07 Implementation
Implementation
Work was sequenced so services could move independently once contracts were stable.
- Target architecture and incremental migration sequence
- Cross-service integration design
- Security, observability, and operational concerns in the target model
08 Security
Security
Identity, least-privilege execution, and controlled service-to-service access were treated as architecture concerns, not afterthoughts.
09 Resilience
Resilience
Failure was expected at service and integration boundaries, with retries, isolation, and well-defined compensation paths.
10 Observability
Observability
Logs, traces, and service-level signals were required so production behaviour could be diagnosed without reconstructing the old monolith.
11 Performance / Scalability
Performance / Scalability
Scale was designed per service through managed compute and event buffering, rather than scaling the former monolith as a unit.
12 Outcomes
Outcomes
- A production serverless platform with clearer service ownership
- Incremental modernization rather than a single high-risk replacement
